What's the value of a green education in getting a green job? Here's your chance to find out!

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Project Management Institute has been holding a series of 3-hour interactive Green Project Management seminars on topics like sustainability at major corporations, case studies on green projects, and even fusion energy. For more, see the PMI SF Bay Area green blog.

Our November seminar, on Saturday the 19th, will cover the importance of green education in getting a green job. It’s crucial for project managers to be familiar with current legislation and how it affects the overall supply chain. As we move toward stricter standards and globalization of products and services, we must be informed about how products are harvested, manufactured, and distributed throughout the globe. Kelle McMahon, CEO of the Green Science Academy, will show us how the landscape of the job market has changed, making project management skills even more valuable -- in fact, vital -- in today’s job market. She will explain how the skills she developed as a project manager helped her build a company that supports the triple bottom line: people, planet, and sustainable profits. Moreover, she will explore how you can transfer your skills to a job in a green industry, as well as showing how green education will differentiate you from other professionals in the marketplace. If you’re thinking of moving into a green job, this workshop will be perfect for you.

As EcoTuesday Denver approaches its 4th event I am overwhelmed by the positive manner in which we have been embraced by the community.  With each event it is great to see new connections being made and the growing enthusiasm around the Denver EcoTuesday chapter.  Of course, the residents of Colorado are no strangers to sustainability.  On any given day you can find at least half-a-dozen sustainably-focused meetups, lectures, conferences, expos, fairs, forums or happy hours.  Here at EcoTuesday, we are honored to be in the company of organizations such as the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, GreenPrint Denver and The Mile High Business Alliance.

This month, EcoTuesday Denver is proud to welcome Paul Sheldon of Natural Capitalism Solutions as our guest speaker.  As leaders in educating businesses, governments and civil society on the principles of sustainability, Natural Capitalism Solutions has significantly contributed to Denver's Green Business community.  One of the missions of Natural Capitalism Solutions is to teach individuals and businesses to restore and further enhance the natural and human capital while increasing prosperity and quality of life.  On October 27th, Paul will discuss how individuals can help regenerate their careers and communities through sustainable job training and education.

Paul Sheldon is no stranger to the sustainable business community.  He has helped organize the Los Angeles-based TreePeople, Friends of the Los Angeles River and numerous other non-profit organizations.  As a Consultant with Natural Capitalism Solutions, he works extensively with non-profits, governments, philanthropists and businesses.  In addition, Paul has taught a number of courses along side colleague Hunter Lovins at San Francisco's Presidio School of Management, the first fully accredited M.B.A. program in Sustainable Management.   If you are a green job-seeker or just want to learn more about improving the Denver community, RSVP and join us on October 27th from 6:30-9:00 pm at Lola Restaurant.  We look forward to seeing you then!

I am often asked what makes EcoTuesday unique. Why spend your Tuesday evening with our group rather than being off doing a dozen other possibilities that evening? The answer is definitely the quality of attendees and speakers.

Since its debut in L.A., we have been incredibly fortunate to draw in a high caliber of people from a myriad of professions and talents.

September’s EcoTuesday was a wonderful validation of my assertions that it is both the quality of attendees and speakers that maintain EcoTuesday’s integrity/reputation.

Our speaker, Scott Fraser, VP of Operations for Origin Oil, commented on how pleased he was to receive so many interesting and passionate questions from us. When I joked that he had a bit of a tough audience in terms of the detailed questions he was asked, he said he was actually quite pleased because it meant that he was in the presence of interested people who actually care.

I am hard pressed to think of a better compliment about our group, and I hope that it inspires a sense of pride to be building our green family in Los Angeles.

For those of you who have been attending EcoTuesday since the start, you know I’ve always had pretty serious subject matter from our speakers, and I think this is what has built us as a respectable group. With that said, however, I want to give us a little extra fun and lightheartedness this October for EcoTuesday.

We will be having Gen Anderson, host of Gen’s Guiltless Gourmet, lead our evening with some fun recipes while we discuss the benefits of healthy eating.

RSVP for October now, as it will be very helpful to know for how many people to accommodate. And, you know I’m going to end by reminding you to keep our networking community meaningful and active by ...  UPDATING YOUR PROFILE, complete with your beautiful mug shot! And, spread the word to other smart, savvy people so we can keep our group strong.
