EcoTuesday Portland premiered its 2010 inaugural Sustainable Business Leaders Networking Forum on January 26th at SOUK in Old town Portland. With over 25 sustainable business leaders in attendance, and a diverse variety of industry representatives; this event was a huge success for an inaugural throw. Thank you to Cooper Mountain Vineyards for supplying the local organic wine….that always helps.

Buzz about EcoTuesday Portland flooded the twitter feeds by local Portland Green Businesses, and word about EcoTuesday Portland traveled fast by mouth. Richard Brenne gave a powerful and insightful talk on the seriousness of the changing climate, while attendees were able to ask questions and participate in great networking opportunities amongst other Oregon Sustainable Business Leaders.

In addition to the premier EcoTuesday Portland monthly networking structure, another component of education was introduced. At the end of the evening, I announced my personal commitment to “Green” the 2010 EcoTuesday Portland Event. It was with this announcement that I was extremely grateful that I met Lindsey Newkirk of Elysium Events within the EcoTuesday networking circle. Without taking away from the EcoTuesday structure and purpose, my personal commitment is to provide the monthly gathering of sustainable business leaders with a transparent view of a progressive green meeting consultation gradually over the 2010 calendar year. Hopefully this will assist other business leaders to transition their own internal business meeting/seminar practices over time. EcoTuesday Portland kicked off the January 2010 “green meeting initiative” agenda with simple awareness to our commitment.

Thanks to the City of Denver online “green meeting” calculator, on January 26th EcoTuesday Portland emitted 11.7404 Metric Tons of CO2. This CO2 total is a breakdown of 5 key “green meeting” segmentations of analyzing your carbon footprint: Energy Used, Attendee Travel, Organizer Travel, Supplier Travel, and Waste.

Thank you to the attendees representing such organizations as Red Lemon Creative, PDX Says, Rose City Mortgage, Elysium Events, Allegro Designs, Northwest Earth Institute, Water for Humans, Trilibrium, Canvas Dreams, From the Rooftops, Yulan Studio, Green Posting.Org, Oregon Training Network, EcoNexus, SOUK, Bainbridge Island Graduate Institute, What’s Happening PDX, and Ecotrain Media Group.

Please join EcoTuesday Portland on February 23rd, as I will elaborate on my understanding of sustainability while providing ecopreneurs, existing business, and job seekers with a greater “green” opportunity moving forward!
