Dallas is the land of bigger is better and newer beats older. Use the words “green” and “Dallas” together and you might get a perplexed look from a lot of people. The truth is Dallas is green and getting greener every day.

So, you ask? What's really going on in this city?

  • The City of Dallas adopted a green building program in 2003. Seventeen new green city facilities have been built. Four are LEED gold certified and five are LEED silver certified.
  • Dallas has the largest alternatively fueled green vehicle fleet in Texas.
  • Dallas was the first city in Texas to use biodiesel fuel.
  • In January, the Environmental Protection Agency listed Dallas as the nation’s top municipal purchaser of renewable energy.
  • Dallas was also selected as the only city in the nation as a pilot city to partner with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Sustainable Skylines Initiative.
  • The City of Dallas has a 1,000-lane mile bike route system for commuting and alternative transportation that covers the entire city.
